Mirin is translated to a sweet rice wine for cooking, but it’s non-alcohol, it is a fermented product. There are many Mirin like products (Mirin flavored liquid) with labels say Mirin in the market both in and outside of Japan. So it’s important to find real Mirin called “Hon-Mirin”.

If it says “Aji-Mirin”, avoid it, it means artificially flavored corn syrup. In Japan, artificial flavoring and additives are widely used in all types of food, and the allergic reactions to food additives are not considered as a common condition. So it’s your responsibility to choose wisely.
